PAWS always was and will continue to be a community where pet owners, pet enthusiasts, and animal activists come together and act upon their interests. It was founded in 2009 by a group of students interested in getting more involved with animal shelters in the LA area. Why? South Los Angeles has a number of issues related to pets: there's very little grass for pets to enjoy, so many animals end up or live their entire lives on the streets, and the area's shelters are crowded and underfunded. With this knowledge, those students worked hard together to create PAWS and help these shelters, rescues, and pets.

Since its inception, PAWS has changed. In the past, PAWS was a small group of core members who went to to animal rescues on the weekends to volunteer. Now, it has evolved to partner with many new shelters and its on campus following has grown substantially. More recently, PAWS has supported its various shelters through on-campus fundraisers and has raised awareness for shelter animals through guest speaker events and guest animal appearances!

PAWS hopes to continue to expand its impact in the coming years. PAWS is able to reach thousands of students via social media outlets such as this website, Facebook, and Instagram, but wants to continue to reach new populations of students. There will soon be more partnerships between PAWS and other USC student organizations to raise awareness, bring in more animals, and grow the animal-loving community.

It is PAWS's hope that all USC students, faculty, staff, and community will join in PAWS's mission to improve the lives of pets, strays, and feral animals in Los Angeles. To achieve this, PAWS is starting with those in the USC area. Please consider joining USC PAWS on it's mission, every extra dog walker and cat snuggler helps!

Success! Message received.
